Last night we had our first 2008 Presidential Debate Party complete with centerpiece (finger puppets courtesy of http://www.boingboing.net/2008/09/21/presidential-debate.html). Somehow we can sort of convince the kids that there is fun involved if we call it a party. Armed with our Lingo cards (http://www.bobstaake.com/lingo/) and m&m and chocolate chip markers we intensely listened to the candidates (or at least for the words on our Lingo cards). M was the first winner - glad to stop listening and begin munching!
We all learned a bit more about the USA's foreign affairs. And lest you believe Senator Obama when he said there is a negative view in the world about America, read this article written by Ben Stein about a Ethiopian cab driver he met that believes that (like Senator Obama's father who believed that there was no other country on Earth where you could make it if you tried.), "This country is the best country in the world." http://www.studentnewsdaily.com/commentary/my-convention-story/
