Location: GA, AL, MS
Weather: Humid, stormy, tornado warnings
Audio Book: The Perilous Road by William O. Steele
9: 30 p.m. CT: With
sweat dripping we stumbled around trying to figure out (in the dark) why our
electricity didn’t work (Hmmm… This happened on our last trip; how did C fix
it?)
After a long afternoon of driving we realized none of us
wanted to drive until midnight to get to TN. We stopped at a McDonald’s with a curiously empty parking lot to consult
our travel books. It wasn’t long before
the kids on the playground realized why this McDonald’s was deserted.. MICE! Ugh!
We finished our meal quickly, pinpointed a camp destination in MS (so we could
add another state to our camper USA map) and got back on the road.
9 p.m. CT/10 p.m. ET: We pulled into Whitten Park in the dark just before the storms blew
through. The next hour was full of
opportunities to grow in patience, compassion and perseverance as we stumbled
around in the dark hooking up, listened to A cry and generally all longed just
to be asleep! Peace came to most by 11
p.m. CT.
11 p.m. CT A call to
C found him at the office trying to do in hours all he thought he needed to get
done before leaving his business for 5 weeks. A check to weather.com finds tornado warnings on until 12 a.m.
1 a.m. CT Awoke with thunderstorms raging above the
camper. Passionately praying for protection.
Kids sleeping. Tornado warnings lifted.
2:30 a.m. CT Wake
up and listen to the storm. Camper door
flies open. Envision a figure from a
horror movie standing in the lightning flashes. No one there. Close the door. Consider calling C, but know he needs his
sleep. Kids still asleep.
3 a.m. CT Storm ends. Sleep comes.
