Our first sight of the wild ponies was on a walk down the beach the first evening. The horses had found a break in the electric fence and were eating the grass on the dune. Soon we were chased off by the band's stallion. After seeing all the photos of the bites visitors received from these guys, everyone was very careful not to get close.

Destination: Assateague Island State Park (Maryland) campground where there are hot showers and flush toilets. Only one loop has electric and water hook ups. Since we were in a tent we chose a nonhook up site off the online registration. It ended up being a great site (E21). If you were camping in a group it'd be a great place. On one side of our site there were bushes enough to provide some shade and privacy and the other side opened up to 2 sites with a large area big enough to set up a volleyball net or other games. The playground and nature center are near as well as the bathroom (with plugs to charge your phone and water to do dishes). The roar of the beach can be heard all night as it's just a short walk over the dune.
