No one in here knows how pretty my shoes are, A- giggled as she made the observation after surveying the hurrying customers at our local grocery store. She had seen these particular shoes, Leopard Fiona Flats, in the store the day before and exclaimed, "These are so awesome!" And she would like everyone to know it.
L's motivation is to get the restlessness from her legs before she sits down to school work. Mine is to regain that "I exercise 6 days a week" body that doesn't seem to come about any other way. As we dodge the swift moving golf carts driving toward the high school we've been enjoying talking and spending time with our faithful beast, Baxter.
E's turn to learn how to drive. She's mastering the golf cart, memorizing her catechism*, studying the Georgia Driver's Manual and awaiting the day she can get her permit.
(*Our condition for getting a permit is: First memorize the 107 questions of the Westminster Shorter Catechism and recite them to Dad.)
Sunday afternoons are filled with getting the teens to their discipleship groups around town. Today we decided to get them there by golf cart and do some exploring with the younger three around town as we went.
***The pools left in the granite with the low water levels held much for exploration.
What is it about a new school year that makes me want to cook? The past week or so I have been pouring over cookbooks trying to come up with some sort of menu plan. Four of the kids take a night of week to cook (two pros, two apprentices). And there are always a few young helpers piping up, "What can I do to help?" when I get out a mixing bowl.
This week's menu:
Sunday: Vegetarian Chili and Cornbread
Monday (Labor Day): Deviled Eggs and Rice Crispy Treats to bring to the Catfish Fry
Tuesday: Pulled Beef Sandwiches
Wednesday: Curried Chicken a la King with Brown Rice
Thursday: Hamburgers off the grill
Friday: Homemade Pizza Night
Last night A- and I were home and trying to figure out what to do with a bag of cherries that were hanging out in the refrigerator not tempting anyone. I searched for muffins with (not dried) cherries and found this great recipe on a site that's called All Day I Dream About Food. These were loved by all (even those who wouldn't touch a cherry!) They were eaten as dessert last night and breakfast this morning.
