After visiting a friend with this coveted object, D enthusiastically spent his birthday money on four Nerf lazer tag guns. Not quite air soft, but the strategic element of the war intrigues him still the same. The younger siblings have enjoyed being included as well.

A non party year, no travel on the calendar and a Saturday birthday gave fuel to the imagination. A whole day to plan for the pleasures in life. What did he decide on?
***Meatball Grinders, Sprite and BBQ Chips was on the menu.
Sleeping in till 9. Video Games (his brother brought his PS3 in for the day and rented a game). Favorite foods. Setting up his Facebook page. And spending time with family.
Simple. Enjoyable. And pronounced "good" at the end of the day.

Orderly. Diligent. Responsible. E's character qualities add a bit of stability in our haphazard household. Over the past year she has waited patiently for her 13th birthday trip to materialize, tackled her Jr. high work, moved onto high school studies and participated in her first mission trip. Plenty of opportunities for growth and she has handled it all with a mature and sweet spirit.
To keep with the one year tradition of coffee cake for breakfast, we awoke early to celebrate with the family early before everyone scattered. To the surprise and delight of her siblings, she added ice cream to the menu. To her vexation, Mom insisted on keeping with the school schedule for the morning and bored her with Biology. To her relief, Dad soon rescued her and took her out to lunch.
***A day ending with Brusters - What could be better?
The day was capped off with dinner, bowling and ice cream with her mom, sister and two of her very best friends.

It has been fun to watch D grow over the past year into a more compassionate and diligent young man. He has taken the challenge of getting caught up in some areas of school that we didn't focus on with a determination that we saw in the gym as he tackled new skills. It is fun to watch him take the challenge and not become discouraged. He also is growing in patience and perseverance as he pleads with God for the finances to come in for him to begin training in the gym again.

Celebrating with a very pink birthday tea party, this little girl was so pleased with all that was set before her - pink balloons, a pink cake, grilled (girl) cheese and many presents that delight a very feminine little one.

The day couldn’t come fast enough for little M. When it got here, it was a blue day… Blue mood, Blue teeth (after drinking a special drink at Friendly’s), Presents that were shades of blue. By evening life was perking up as he enjoyed opening presents lovingly purchased by his family.

**K & S in Times Square
Faithful, determined, content…. It has been fun to watch K as she has begun to shift her focus from living in the day to realizing there is a whole world to be explored. She is continually growing in her confidence and diligence – traits that will see her through the next months well. Most of all it has been fun to see her quiet devotion to the Lord grow as she pursues His calling on her life.
To celebrate her day, K and I headed into New York City. Her main interest was to see the Metropolitan Museum of Art. On the way we walked, shopped, saw Rockefeller Center, picnicked in Central Park, walked, got caught in rush hour at Ground Zero, grew proficient in riding the Subways, rested and charged the phone in the NYC Public Library, photographed Grand Central Station and marveled in Times Square.

In honor of C’s brother’s 48th birthday, a group of his high school friends planned a reunion of MYFers (Methodist Youth Fellowship) from our childhood church. Loaded down with scrapbooks and photos, all arrived to reminisce, laugh, eat and laugh more. The exclamation, “Why did we wait so long?” was heard over and again.

Shelving the school books, planning the family menu for the day and playing with a friend provided a simple prescription for a fun filled birthday for this young lady.
Sharing her day with plumbers investigating suspected broken pipes from the dip in the overnight temperature only added excitement. She was happy to share her mint chocolate chip/chocolate ice cream cake with the appreciative plumbers.

One sibling was heard to say, "I let her pick out of 3 things. She picked a flag pin. It's broken because it went through the wash, but she wanted it...."
